Ogun State Government has commenced a process of Urban Renewal as part of efforts to reposition the state along the new economic directive.
The State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel in a statemenet signed by his Press Officer Mr. Kehinde Onasanya stated this at a Special get-together for the State Elders Forum, organized by its Chairman, Prince Bola Ajibola held at the Valley View auditorium, government house, Abeokuta.
Otunba Daniel said the greatest challenge facing the state was the influx of people from the neighbouring state, pointing out that “a lot of heavy duty vehicles and destitutes are being deported to the state, thus creating a densely populated environment”.
He said the master plan for the urban renewal program which would commence from the capital city of Abeokuta had been finalized, saying “our city centres would be re-created and modeled after the great city of the world”.
The Governor inform the elders that premium locations such as the Ibara government reservation area and Oke-Ilewo among others would be given premium development, adding that “whatever we realized from the re-development, of such areas would be used to support mass housing for the poor”.
Meanwhile Otunba Daniel has commended the elders forum for their commitment to true federation in words and deeds, saying his government would soon facilitate a trip of the elders to Abuja to express their views on some of the lopsidedness in the nation’s constitutional arrangement.
“A case where people go to the federal government to secure license on our deposit without our approval is a lopsided arrangement, it is time for us to take a second look at the kind of federation we are practicing” he added.
The Governor who recalled that the state’s representatives at the last political conference in Abuja dwelled extensively on the issue of true federalism, said “we must continue to explain where we are coming from, where we are going and the way forward on true federalism.
