As Folake Coker owner of the exclusive fashion label, Tiffany Amber, creator of one of the hottest fashion lines in Nigeria, sets to celebrate her tenth year anniversary in 2008, she presents ‘a countdown to a decade’ collection and the launch of her Couture label, Folake Folarin. The launch which holds next Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the pool side of the Eko hotel and Suites, will be her first show in five years, it will feature exclusive pieces, made from the best natural fibers, exclusive laces, silk and more.

Folake Folarin, she says, was born out of the need to satisfy those customers with an eye for exclusivity. “The label is for those customers who just don’t want to wear the same thing with anybody else and they will only be available in our main office. Folake Folarin came about because I noticed that whenever there is a big function and because it’s a ready to wear label, people rush to the shop and pick up the dress. I guarantee, that she will not be the only one that thought it was nice and there will be one or two other people wearing the same dress.”

Folake folarin is going to change that, in the sense that most of the clothes will be on offs , “and if there is any particular style that we repeat, it will never be more than two or three pieces, but there will be something distinctively different about each of them. But 50% of those clothes will be one offs , nobody else will have it and I don’t even think anybody will want to duplicate it in anyway because every single one of those clothes a lot of work has gone into them.”

For those who think the name is a combination of her and her husband’s name, Folake says; “No, my husband’s name is Folorunsho Coker. Coker is my father in-law. I noticed that the times I have done shows outside Nigeria, they have always referred to me as Folake Folarin, so I thought it was a great name and it sounds great too.”

Folake Folarin-Coker̓s return to Nigeria in 1997 after years of study in Europe heralded the coming of a new definition of style and elegance that has set the tone and raised the bar of fashion in the country since then. Within the short span of 9 years, her label Tiffany Amber has become the most popular fashion label in Nigeria winning several awards and taking part in over 40 fashion shows within and outside the country.

A graduate of law with a masters degree in petroleum law, she turned her passion and flair for fashion into a label that is identified with quality and a timeless elegance. Undoubtedly, her cosmopolitan background and exposure to people from diverse cultures has greatly influenced her sense of style and her ability to design for women of different tastes, shapes and body types. This versatility has endeared the label to major players in the Nigerian economy, who have at one point in time or the other showcased IYffany Amber designs during different functions e.g., the fashion show at the Genevieve pink bell in 2006, a runway show for British Airways marking their 70th anniversary, Nokia face of Africa and many more.

With three stores located in Lagos (including the highbrow Palms Shopping Mall, Lekki) and one in Abuja, Folake Coker has brought to Nigeria a first class shopping experience that is available in any one of her beautifully decorated and well attended stores. Her clothing is a practical example of what Yves St. Laurent meant when he said “fashions come and go but style is forever”. It bestows upon the wearer an elegance and grace that is timeless and survives the different trends that come and go over the years.
