 22 rear old Nigeria's VJ Champion Cynthia Okpala Ecstatic Cynthia Okpara on Friday 19th October began the first day of a new TV career after winning the televised Grand Final of the MTV & MTN VJ Search. Nigerian viewers watched as Cynthia won the nationwide contest, broadcast from The Chill Out Club, Lagos. Cynthia, 22 from Ebonyi State beat three other regional finalists to capture a coveted contract with music channel MTV base and becomes the first ever Nigerian TV presenter for MTV base. Cynthia begins the gig of a lifetime hosting new weekly music chart show MTN Naija Hits on MTV base, STV, DStv and HiTV from Friday 26 October.
Cynthia was selected by members of the public voting by SMS and a judging panel comprising celebrity judges Frank Edoho and Rhythm FM’s Wildchild alongside MTV’s Gordon Hagan. She beat fellow contestants Bimbola Ademujimi, (Benin region); Edward Chukwuma-Jiah (Abuja region) and Adewale Akinjogbin (Jos region), to win the first prize in the electrifying Grand Final. She wins a one-year paid contract with MTV base.

Other mouth watering prizes from MTN Nigeria include a brand new Honda city car, one-year contract as MTN XtraCool ambassador, N1 million cash prize, N100,000 wardrobe makeover, an MTN Blackberry with one-year subscription, one-year supply of MTN recharge cards and one year supply of MTN branded items.
 South African first VJ Sizwe Dhlomo, Nigeria's VJ winner Cynthia Okpala, and Vice president MTV Base Alex Obosi Cynthia, alongside the other runner-ups will have their faces on MTN recharge cards and will also have the opportunity to co-host MTN regional concerts and shows. An unbelieving Cynthia was surrounded by MTV base presenter Sizwe Dhlomo, his fellow contestants and the judges as they all sought to congratulate the new star. Veteran MTV base VJ Sizwe Dhlomo wished Cynthia every success as he handed over the microphone to his new MTV colleague. “I was really impressed by Cynthia’s performance. All the contenders were excellent, but Cynthia stood out head and shoulders above the others, pressing all the right buttons for me! I can’t think of a better person to represent Nigeria as the first ever MTV presenter from this country!’
 Cynthia and Mom Mrs Okpala After a few moments of speechless delight, Cynthia commented: “I know this is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I’m going to grab it with both hands! It’s the culmination of everything I’ve ever hoped for in my life. I want to thank everyone who voted for me and supported me to make my dreams come true!” Kunle Adesina, Youth Segment Manager, MTN Nigeria congratulated all four Nigerian finalists on their talent, and wished them all the best with their future.
