The Unprecidented Pressure on Atiku Abubarkar to Withdraw the AC's Presidential Election Petition before the Election Tribunal - Is It Justifyable?

We as a Chapter of AC and a reputable Organization in Rivers State have read all the insinuations, attempted blackmail and the unwarranted pressure on our Principal and Presidential Candidate of our great political party the Action Congress, Alh Atiku Abubakar to withdraw the Action Congress’s Presidential Election petition before the Presidential Election Tribunal and the commendable efforts of our indefatigable National Publicity Secretary, Alh Mohammed Lai to putting the records straight before the public. As a Chapter and one of the big ones in that matter, it will be total negligence on our side if we continue to keep silence in this sensitive issue that will affects us more drastically than any other State Chapter of AC in the country seeing the genuine case we in Rivers State Chapter has in reclaiming Rivers State to true progressives and to AC as a party.

It is based on this that we wish to state that the blackmail and pressure on our Principal to unjustly withdraw a case that is aimed at strengthening the country’s democratic norms and culture is to us most unfortunate, regrettable and unacceptable, as any effort in that regard will be seen as relegating and negating the principles under which the party was founded in the first place and legitimizing the electoral fraud, day light robbery, subservient of the people’s mandate and undermining democratic process in the country. Most sadly, such an act will be placing our great party at par with other parties in the country and rendering all the risks and efforts the party particularly our Principal went through in the hands of undemocratic elements in the country fruitless and in jeopardy.

We also view the media report associating our Principal with disrespectful acts to some eminent traditional leaders that include our revered Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar 111, Alhaji Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano, the Obi of Onitsha whom the story erroneously called Chief Gibson Nwosu and a third chief, Sir Muhammed Sanusi and some concerned elder statesmen alleged to have being rebuffed when they visited our Principal in Dubai, United Arab Emirate to put pressure on him to withdraw his case at the presidential election tribunal as a blackmail and calculated attempt to portray our Principal in a borrowed robe as being arrogant and disrespectful to traditional institution and elder statesmen in the country forgetting that His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar not only respects traditional institution,s he swims, drinks and rightly belong to that revered institution being the most capped or rather the highest living Nigerian traditional titles holder in the country today.

For avoidance of doubt, the former Vice President apart from being the Turaki Adamawa one of the highest titles in the Adamawa province is the Ochendo Ndi Igbo of Adamawa and Taraba States; Saraduna Ganye; Zege Mule ‘U’ Tiv; Mayedoro of Lagos; Shetima Biu, Zantalma of Borno; Enyioha Ndigbo of Enugu, Suka of Ogoniland, Ezi Enyi of Anambra, Nwanne Di Na Mba of Imo State and over thirty other titles that need not be mentioned in a press release like this. For some people therefore to try to portray such a person as being disrespectful to highly respected traditional rulers is to us a blackmail which nether can be rationalized and therefore not acceptable to us as a party and group.

We proudly commend our distinguished Senator and the immediate past Governor of Lagos State, a founding member and one of the party’s pillars in the country, our own Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his timely rebuttal of the evil machination of enemies of democracy in Nigeria over the erroneous insinuation that he has threatened to decamp from the party if Atiku fails to withdraws his case from the tribunal. For this timely rebuttal, we that are his admirers and supporters are now reassured that the said conflict between him and our Principal was only in the polluted minds of evil minded politicians that would have preferred and celebrate such a conflict between these two lights of democracy in Nigeria in order to achieve their wicked desire of our keeping our country in perpetual undemocratic practice. With this failure of their evil ploys and diversionary tactics aimed at detracting us from the historic role of salvaging the country from the shackles of the PDP; they can now go and bury their heads in shame.

We will like to encourage Nigerians to have faith with AC as a party intended to sustain democratic values and make the country’s democratic set-up one of the best in the world. We are proud that with the enviable democratic credentials of Atiku Abubakar and what he was meant to suffer to make sure that the enemies of our country’s democracy are properly removed from power, he will in turn ensure that the democracy he risked his life to give to Nigeria is not truncated in any form by any people no matter whom they are. Nigerians should therefore for the interest of our democracy commend and encourage this democrat per excellence to continue to not only to enrich our legal tenets but to enrich our democratic norms.

For avoidance of doubt, we will like to reiterate that Atiku Abubakar has nothing and nothing for whatsoever against President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua as an individual or against him being Nigerian’s President, he is only trying to justify the views of both Mr. President, the European Union and the entire world that the entire general election organized by General Obasanjo and his kangaroo INEC was not only flawed but the worst in the record of any democratic set-up in any other country and that General Obasnjo in doing what he did never meant any good for this country.

It is an established fact also that President Yar’Adua being a true democrat does not in any way minds all the wrong insinuations and efforts to justify the evil that was perpetuated against us as a nation by General Obasnjo still regard Atiku Abubakar not only as a brother but the true head of PDM being the only organization that unifies all true democrats and progressives in the country. For President Yar’Adua to have accepted that the election was flawed and strive to improve on rule of law in the country that was bastardized by Obasanjo and his cohorts shows that he believes in the course Atiku Abubakar is fighting for a greater and better Nigeria. Let us therefore, as a country that has being stagnant in growth all these years particularly the last eight years due to bad leadership acknowledge the vision and plans of the saviour of democracy in our country.
