A satellite designed and fabricated, albeit, by Nigerian engineers in the UK is not a made in Nigeria Satellite. Cannot be. Will never become. This ploy, it seems to me, typifies the case of the cart before the horse. In the 21st century, Nigerian planners should devise the long-run approach in developmental issues. The satellite infrastructure erected in Nigeria, it seems to me, ought to be the logical, primary and wise way to go before the rush to a "make belief" of a made in UK satellite as a made in Nigeria satellite.
The primary objective of every development in a developing country like Nigeria should be towards the development of her economy especially in the establishments of related industries which will service and form the back-bone of concurrent as well as future development projects. This is the only way that guarantees Nigerian industrialization and the creation of jobs for the Nigerian populace. No country in this 21st century with a well structured economic and development plan will throw away huge development funds as hereunder, especially to a colonial master as Britain. Nigeria is probably blessed with many intelligent people but it seems Nigeria has not received the blessings yet of having the right people to trigger the catalyst of change that Nigeria must have for a well structured (not shanty) development. A truly made in Nigeria Satellite must be made within the geographical bounds of Nigeria and not outside Nigeria. Sunny Odum woodgong communications Finland.
