Polio Cases Decrease in Nigeria |

At this year's lunching of the Polio Immunisation exercise in Birnin Kebbbi, Kebbi state, Dr. Peter Eriki, the World Health Organization representative in the country disclosed that about 128 cases of polio was reported this year. This shows a significant decline in the number of polio cases by 80per cent.
"A combination of factors contributed to the progress made in both polio eradication and Routine Immunisation which have led to boosting child survival and primary health care delivery services in the country.
A strategy of engagement was also realigned with more consultation, pro-active involvement of religious and traditional leaders and close dialogue with communities resulting in state and local government ownership" he said
MR. Ayalew Abai, UNICEF representative said it was possible for Nigeria to stop the transmission of the disease by 2008. he however urged local governments to be more consistent and involved in the process.
