Heartland of Owerri proved itself the better of the two Nigerian representatives in the 2009 CAF Champions League after defeating Kano Pillars by a lone goal at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano to qualify for the final of Africa's elite club competition.

Leading 4-0 from the first leg played last week, the Naze Millionaires had to soak a lot of pressure from the home side though it was the visitors that looked more dangerous going forward owing to Pillars' precarious position of needing to score at least four goals.

The lone goal of the thrilling encounter however went to Heartland through striker Uchenna Agba in the closing stages of the second leg to seal a comprehensive 5-0 aggregate win for Heartland; Agba scored a brace in the first leg.

Heartland now awaits the winner of the second semi-final between TP Mazembe of DR Congo and Sudan's Al-Hilal holding this weekend in Lubumbashi with the former champions from Congo favourites to pick that place after winning the first leg in Omdurman 5-2.
