Italian champions Inter Milan could only manage a draw in chilly Russia while five-time winners Liverpool was beaten by a first half masterclass from AC Fiorentina in Italy.
At the Artemio Franchi in Group E, Fiorentina rose to second courtesy of a first half brace from youngster Jevotic earned the Italian side a deserved 2-0 win over Liverpool though la Viola had to soak a barrage of pressure from the Reds in the second half and hang on for the win. French side Olympique Lyon thrashed Romanian debutantes Debrecen 4-0 in Bucharest to stay atop Group E with six maximum points ahead of its clash with Liverpool in the next round of Champions League matches. Other matches saw a Dejan Stankovic goal earn Inter Milan a 1-1 draw at Russian champions Rubin Kazan in Group F while defending champions Barcelona earned a 2-0 win at home to Yusuf Ayila's Dynamo Kyiv to go top of the group with four points while Inter lie third with two points. In Group G, Sevilla holds sway on top following an impressive 4-0 demolition of Rangers at Ibrox while German side Stuttgart could only manage a 1-1 draw at Urziceni to stay four points behind Sevilla in second place. Finally in Group H, Arsenal left it late to earn a lone goal win over Olympiacos Piraeus at the Emirates Stadium while Standard Liege of Belgium fell by a lone goal as well at AZ Alkmaar of neighbouring Holland. The Champions League continues on Wednesday night with Obafemi Martins' Wolfsburg guests of Manchester United at Old Trafford while John Mikel Obi is set to miss Chelsea's trip to Cyprus to face APOEL Nicosia.
