 The Pulse band
In an article titled, 'The Pulse' wins Star Quest '09, which was recently published on this website, I made a comment in the last paragraph about KC Presh being the only winner of the musical talent hunt show that has really hit the limelight. I was wondering, I still am, what might have been the cause of this near obscurity for the Diamonds, D'Jewels and D'Accord who are all past winners of the talent hunt.
But then, some couple of weeks after 'The Pulse' was named winner of this year's edition of the show, I was stunned to see a musical video of the band on African Independent Television. Wait, are these not the guys that just won Star Quest was the question that came to my mind. After giving it a thought, I simply concluded that it might be a one off thing. I was wrong! Totally wrong!! Some few days after my first encounter with 'The Pulse' on AIT, I came across it again on one of my favourite local radio stations and since then I have lost count of how many times I have either listened to it on radio or seen it on television. Ehn, Ehn! Yes, these guys have finally taken a step in the right direction by riding on the television prominence they acquired by participating in the Star Quest to release a single and not just any one but a very good one instead of retiring into the studios to wax an album before coming public again. The little observation I've made in my about one year of monitoring the entertainment scene in our dear country Nigeria is that there is a need for the sustained presence of an artiste in the public's glare. The reverse, I think, is what has affected the likes of Diamonds, D'Jewels, D'Accord and many other 'one-off' acts that have trodden the Nigerian music path. Back to the single titled 'So Te' which, I know, many of us must have come across at one time or the other too. 'So Te' is a very simple and straight forward peice with a little satirical twist to it. These two qualities make it very easy for any kind of audience to relate with the song which, I think, is why it has enjoyed so much airtime on both radio and television. The video too is nothing too ambiguous but just fits the song. It is good enough to achieve one very vital goal which is to register the faces of 'The Pulse' on the minds of music fans across the country. The Pulse band, made up of Dubem Ochokwu, Obianuju Udeh, Charles Nkamiang, Asuquo Okon, Moses Philips and Babatunde Omomeji, seem to be the only other band that will join KC Presh at the summit of this music business and that, I reckon, should be SOONEST!
