One the 6th of June this year, the fourth edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Awards will get on the way at the Cramtom Auditorium, Howard University in Washington DC of the United States of America.
For the next couple of days we will be examining the chances of the nominees in the awards vis-a-vis their recent award winning records and their performances. That is notwithstanding that I don't still understand why a Nigerian Entertainment Award will be holding in far away USA. We shall begin with Jude Abaga popularly known as M.I who together with J Martins and Naeto C are joint top nominees with three nominations each. M.I was nominated in the best album of the year, best rapper of the year and the best new act of the year categories. What really comes to mind when we talk about M.I is how soon he has climbed the ladder of fame in the music industry...he is almost at the peak already. He debuted formally on the nigerian music scene in the last days of the year 2009 with his 'Talk About It' album that has, today gotten him the fame and fortune that he currently has. Writing about his album sometime in January..."With real names, Jude Abaga, it is quite apparent that M.I hasn't just come to swell the number of rappers in Nigeria but also to make his mark and guess what...he has already begun that process, I'm sure he's gonna be a success.", I wrote. Just about four months on, he now is amongst the artistes with the most awards so far in this year 2009. He won two awards in the most prominent awards ceremony that has taken place this year, the Hip Hop World Awards. He won the Best Rap Album award for 'Talk About It' and the Hip Hop World Revelation award. However, in the upcoming Nigerian Entertainment Award, he's progress will, yet again be tested and it sure will be against worthy fellow nominees I must admit. His album will be competing with Naeto C's 'U know my P', Dare Art-Alade's 'Undareyted in addition to foes from Hip Hop World Awards in the persons of D'Banj with his 'Entertainer album and Tu Face with his 'Unstoppable' album. In the best rapper single, he's got Ruggedman's number one foe, Mode 9 for company alongside Naeto C, Ikechukwu and Sauce Kid. Finally, M.I would be taking another shot at glory in the best new act of the year category where Durella, YQ, J Martins and Bigiano are also hopefuls. Any wins in the upcoming awards would sure be welcome to M.I...a treble...possiby, that would be outstanding.
