Zambia's under-20 soccer coach, George Lwandamina, has moved to downplay the supremacy of Nigeria's Flying Eagles, who they face in the second round of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada.
Lwandamina, who was full of praise for his players’ determination to prevail over Uruguay 2-0, in their final group match at the weekend, said he did not care about Nigeria, stressing that he did not fear any team and would take any one of them as they come.
“We had wanted to win in all the games, but things didn’t work out the way we planned, but I am just happy that we won the match and progressed to the next round and that is important.
“We are moving one step at a time and progressing to the next round is good for Zambia. It is the expectation of everyone that you move one step ahead and excel in the tournament. If you have to participate successfully in a tournament, you have to be progressive. Nigeria is like any other team,” Lwandamina said.
The last time Nigeria and Zambia played in an age-grade tournament was at the African Youth Championship in January in Congo-Brazzaville.
At that time, Nigeria won 4-2 and went on to reach the final of the event, where they lost 1-0 to hosts, Congo. Quote this article on your site | Print | E-mail
