Nigerian captain, Nwankwo Kanu is backing the Flying Eagles to play in the final of the ongoing FIFA Under-21 tournament in Canada.
Kanu said in Lagos that after watching the team's three group matches he felt highly confident in the ability of the coach Ladan Bosso boys to storm the final, which he predict can pan in their favour, if they stay steadfast and work hard.
"I saw a team that is well balanced in all the departments of the game and I want to say that the boys have shown enough character to get to the final once again.
"No matter what people have said, I know the character of the team and the boys will surprise a lot of people. I don't have any doubt in my mind that they will bring glory to this country at the end of the competition. The boys are good and everything is working in their favour, so I believe they will make it."
It is recalled that the Flying Eagles reached the final in 2005, only to lose 2-1 to Argentina, but where not tipped to make it past the first round this year because of what was termed as shoddy preparations but have surprised even their biggest of critics with the way and manner they got to the quarter finals.
The team beat Costa Rica and Scotland 1-0 and 2-0 respectively before drawing 0-0 with Japan at the weekend. Quote this article on your site | Print | E-mail
