Man U, Arsenal Join Juve in Champions League Last 16

Champions Manchester United has made it through to the last 16 following a lively goalless draw at Villarreal that had Joan Capdivella sent off 10 minutes from time for a lunge at Cristiano Ronaldo.

Capdivella few minutes earlier had proved crucial for the Yellow Submarines by heading a deflected Wayne Rooney cross shot off the line in a rear moment Diego Lopez was beaten in the Villarreal goal.

Lopez saved thrice from Ronaldo and pushed a deflected shot from the portuguese ace onto the crossbar as the Red Devils looked the more likely to score in the Group E encounter.

The draw leaves both sides still leading the group with nine points and guaranteed a place in the last 16, four points ahead of third placed Aalborg BK that secured a UEFA Cup spot with a 2-1 win over Scottish champions Celtic.

In Group G, Arsenal began life with Cesc Fabregas as captain with a 1-0 win over Yusuf Atanda Ayila's Dynamo Kyiv at the Emirates, thanks to Nicklas Bendtner's late strike, to book a place in the knock-out rounds though the Gunners are yet to seal top spot after FC Porto's 2-1 win at Fenerbahce.

Arsenal lead the group with 11 points, two ahead of FC Porto whom they face in the final group match to be played in Porto's Dragao Stadium. Dynamo Kyiv meanwhile will be favourites to pick third spot and a UEFA Cup place in its final match at home to Fenerbahce with Dynamo on five points and Fener on two.

In other groups, Bayern Munich and Olympique Lyon sealed their passage to the last 16 with Bayern thumping Romanians Staeua Bucharest 3-0 in Germany and Lyon picking a 2-1 win at Fiorentina.

Just like in Group E, Group G will see the top two squaring off for top spot in the final group encounters next week while Steaua and Fioentina will have a place in the UEFA Cup to play for in Romania.

Finally in Group H, Real Madrid joined Juentus in the last 16 with a 1-0 win at BATE Borisov thanks to an early Raul Gonzalez goal in the seventh minute, Juevntus earlier drew goalless at Zenit St. Petersburg.
