Spanish international Francesc Fabregas has been named captain of a presently beleaguered Arsenal following a week of turmoil at the club which climaxed with the stripping of William Gallas from the captaincy and a 3-0 bashing at Manchester City in the Premier League.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger however stated that the now former captain Gallas will be part of the team to face Atanda Ayila's Dynamo Kyiv in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League match at the Emirates Stadium.
Gallas had come under fire following public statements about in-fightings in the Arsenal dressing room and a lack of spirit to win games; including being insulted by a 25 year old member of the squad.
Arsenal enter a crucial stage in the season already with qualification for the knock-out stages of the Champions League yet to be confirmed and a Premier League title challenge fast exaporating.
