The Super Falconets of Nigeria edged closer to a place in the quarterfinal of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Chile after a 1-1 draw with group leaders Ebgland in her second match of the Championship.
The Falconets had fallen behind to a Natasha Dowie goal in first half stoppage time but Ebere Orji pulled Nigeria back on level terms with her second of the Championship in the 71st minute.
Both sides rattled the crossbar once each in the first and second half but it was England that almost won the match at the death with Dowie pulling a great save from Nigeria's goalie Marbel Egwuenu.
The draw leaves Nigeria in second place on goal difference behind England with both on four points while New Zealand returned to contention for a place in the last eight with a thrilling 4-3 win over hosts Chile, now out of the Cup.
In Group B, the United States confirmed her place in the last eight with another 3-0 win, this time over Argentina to leave the Americans top with six points ahead of France on three points after a 2-0 win over China in the other group encounter.
Nigeria will next play Chile in her final group match with a win paramount in boosting the Falconets' chances of giong top of Group A and avoid a potentially difficult quarterfinal against the United States.
England face New Zealand in the other final Group A match with New Zealand needing an outright win to qualify as a draw would knock the Oceanic nation out.
