TSG Hoffenheim, the club of Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi this afternoon regained top spot in the German Bundesliga with a 3-1 win at Ishiaku Mannaseh's FC Cologne while Bayer Leverkusen fell 2-1 at Arminia Bielefeld.
Despite the absence of the Olympic silver medal winner, Hoffenheim dominated the encounter and a brace from league top scorer Vedad Ibisevic preceded by Ba's first half strike gave the modest outfit the win as both sides finished with ten men.
Leverkusen however could not keep pace with the newly promoted Hoffenheim as Bielefeld goals either side of the hour mark put the home side ahead and despite Patrick Helmes' late strike, Leverkusen was undone by a late red card.
That defeat allowed champions Bayern Munich to move level on 28 points with Leverkusen, three points behind Hoffenheim, following a convincing 4-1 thrashing of Energie Cottbus with Franck Ribery, Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni in among the goals at the Allianz Arena.
In other matches, Hertha Berlin stayed a point behind Bayern in fourth place with a dramatic 3-2 win at Bochum with the side from the German capital almost letting slip of a three goal first half lead to hang on for the all-important three points.
Borussia Dortmund follow in fifth with 24 points courtesy of a 1-0 win at Karlsruhe while Stuttgart fell 4-1 at Wolfsburg, Schalke beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 and Frankfurt thrashed Hannover 96 4-0 at the Commerzbank Arena.
