A makeshift Super Eagles team early this morning in Cali lost 1-0 to Colombia courtesy of a second half goal in one of numerous international friendlies played all over the world.
Shuaibu Amodu's side, missing a host of first team regulars due to injuries and absence from the team, played second best for large periods of the encounter though a second half header was tipped over by the Colombian keeper.
The win, courtesy of Falcao Garcia's late strike, means Colombia have won all three matches between both countries, all by the same lone goal margin, and therefore inflict Amodu's first loss since his appointment as national team coach earlier this year. The match was in preparation for the final phase of qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup and African Cup of Nations.
In other friendly internationals, Brazil taught Portugal some Samba football with a 6-2 victory in Brasilia while John Terry made up for a horrendous error to give England a 2-1 win over Germany in Berlin.
Luis Fabiano raised his stoke with a sublime hat-trick for the South Americans with Inter Milan players Adriano, Maicon and Elano of Manchester City adding three more to cancel out Danny's equaliser at 1-1 and Simao Sambrosa's goal back at 4-1.
In Berlin, Matthew Upson had put the Three Lions in front after poking home off a goal mouth scramble but Patrick Helmes equalised early in the second half after Terry failed to guide the ball to keeper Scott Carson, allowing Helmes to sneak in between the duo and slot into an empty net.
In Cairo, African champions Egypt ran out 5-1 winners over Benin with Mohammed Abou-Trika scoring a brace while Razaq Omotoyossi scored a late consolation for the Squirrels.
2010 World Cup hosts South Africa pulled off one of its best displays to defeat Nations Cup finalists Cameroun 3-2 in the Mandela Challenge with Teko Modise scoring a brace for Bafana Bafana.
