They have been widely acclaimed as the best music Video makers in Nigerian music. They are also widely known for their synchronised dance steps, which usually blow the minds of their fans away. The quality of their music is also not lost on their viewers. Quite frankly, P-Square is one of those music groups in the country that have had an exceptionally successful career.
PSquare Just like 2 Face and D'Banj, P-Square is already an household name in Nigeria. Theirs is a story of starting from the scratch and putting aside all challenges on their path to emerge tops... a story which started from the music and drama club of St. Murumba College, a small Catholic school in Jos, Nigeria. After winning the 'Grab Da Mic' music competition in 2001, the R&B duo came out with their debut album in 2003 titled 'Last Nite' and that was the beginning of new times for them. In addition to being nominated in the "Most Promising African Group" category in the Kora Awards three months after the release of their debut album, they won the 2003 Amen Award for Best R&B Group. Two years later, precisely in 2005, they released their second album titled 'Get Squared', with hit tracks like, 'Oga Police', 'Say your Love', 'Temptation' and most especially 'Bizzy Body'...it was a tremendous success. What followed wasn't a joke at all...four awards at the Hip Hop World Awards 2006; three for the album and one for 'Bizzy Body'. The album won them the Best R&B Album, Best Music Video and Album of the Year awards. 'Bizzy Body' was the Song of the Year. That wasn't all, P-Square won the Best Hip Hop group in the City Mag 9th Awards Show. Get Squared also won them the Album of the Year and Music Video of the year awards in the 2006 Nigerian Music Awards. Lastly for that year, they were also nominated in the Best African Act Category in the Music of Black Origin Awards. Their latest album titled, 'Game Over' was released sometime last year. After that, they won the 2007 Channel O Music Video Awards Best Duo or Group category which they won back to back this year. In addition to those, they are also proud winners of the Video of the Year award for 'Do Me' in the same 2008 Channel O Music Video Awards - Best Duo Or Group. P-Square has been nominated in five categories of the upcoming MTV African Music Awards including the Best Live Performer, Best Group, Best R&B, Best Video and Artiste of the Year categories. As it has been noted in the previous profile on D'Banj, the Best Live Performer category will witness a tough match-up between D'Banj and P-Square. It won't be too far from the truth to say nobody can afford to dislike these two artistes on stage...it won't. However, they both will have to shrug off contest from Cassette and Jozi both of South Africa with Ghanian performer, Samini. In the Best Group category, P-Square being the only Nigerian representatives has to compete with Ugandan East African Bashment Crew and the South African trio of Freshly Ground, Jozi and The Parlotones. The highest challenge they will be facing would definitely be in the Best R&B category where they have the company of world acclaimed Akon, Alicia Keys and Rihanna of the United States and Loyiso of South Africa. None can dispute that it's going to be real tough in this category. The singing duo are also in the run for the Artist of the Year award with two compatriots in the person of Asa and D'Banj in addition to HHP and Seether both of South Africa. It would be suicidal to bet on any of these artistes to emerge winner in this category...so, do not try it. Finally, the Best Video category presents P-Square another avenue to add to their avalanche of awards having been nominated for 'Roll It' alongside Nigeria's Ikechukwu for 'Wind Am Well', Gabon' s Movaizheleine for 'Nous', South Africa's Freshly Ground for 'Pot Belly' and Pro Kid for 'Uthini Ngo Pro'.
