Egyptian club of the 20th century Al-Ahly this evening won a record sixth CAF Champions League title following a 4-2 aggregate win over Cotonsport after a 2-2 draw in the second leg final played in Garoua Cameroun.
Ahly midfielder Ahmed Hassan opened scoring in the 37th minute to leave Cotonsport needing to score four goals after losing the first leg in Cairo 2-0 a fortnight ago.
And the response was almost immediate with Abdoul Karim Lassina eqaulising on the stroke of half time with a close range effort while Ousmaïla Baba gave the Camerounians much hope with a headed second just past the hour mark.
However Contonsport could not muster more goals after that with Baba missing a host of chances and Ahly captain Shady Mohamed put the destination of the Cup beyond doubt with a 90th minute equaliser for the Egyptians from the penalty spot.
The win means Al-Ahly will represent Africa at the upcoming Club World Cup in Japan later this year with Manchester United featuring as European champions.
