A goal 20 minutes from time from Nigerian international Chinedu Ogbuke-Obasi kept TSG Hoffenheim second in the German Bundesliga on goal difference from Bayer Leverkusen that held on to defeat Schalke 04.
League top scorer Vedad Ibisevic and Eduardo had put Hoffenheim twice ahead but Wolfsburg twice came back before Ogbuke-Obasi sealed a 3-2 win for the surprise team of the Bundesliga, his eighth this season.
A two-goal win would have put Hoffenheim ahead of Leverkusen but the latter scored two first half goals and held on despite going down to ten men and conceding minutes to the end of a dramatic match against Schalke.
The results leave Leverkusen and Hoffenheim three points clear at the top ahead of third placed champions Bayern Munich that let slip a two-goal lead at Borussia Monchengladbach to draw 2-2.
That allowed Hertha Berlin to close in on the Bavarians in fourth on 24 points after a 2-1 over Macaulay Chrisantus' Hamburg which slipped to fifth on 23 points in the process while Borussia Dortmund thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 to rise to sixth
