J.T. Taylor pays surprise visit to MTN Project Fame

The joy of the MTN Project Fame West African contestants knew know bounds today (Friday November 14), when, suddenly from the blues came one of the world music icon James J. T. Taylor. The ex-lead singer of the American popular and multiple award winning musical group Cool And The Gang, paid a surprise visit to the remaining contestants in the academy.

J.T. Taylor who had been in the country as a guest of MTN Nigeria, decided to come in person and meet with the aspiring music talents. The 55 year old American pop star was accompanied by Mr. Kola Oyeyemii GM Marketing MTN Nigeria. They were received by Mr. Femi Ayeni, the chief executive officer of Ultima Studios, Mr. Kelvin Orifa MTN Xtracool brand manager and Mrs. Sarah Migwi of Endemol, the Project Fame franchise owner from Kenya.
In a brief interaction with a select number of entertainment editors before going inside the academy, the ageless Taylor explained that his success in his chosen career is made possible because of the discipline he gave himself while coming up and the tutelage he received from his mother. According to the rhythm and blues music star, “I don’t do alcohol, I don’t do drugs, and I don’t allow myself to loose focus”.

When he sauntered into the academy, it was the bewildered students, nine in all, that received him. Most of the young talents were too shock for words when
Taylor came in. The likes of Onyemachi, Inyanya, Nii and Praise could not help shed tears. According to Bisola, “it was too real to be true”, while the Ghanaian born Kojo confessed that “I have been seeing JT Taylor’s pictures on internet, and listen to his music because he is my music idol, I never imagined in my wildest dream that I would come face to face with James Taylor. Today is my happiest day in this academy”.
Taylor took time with the xtracool Project Fame lads to school them in the various arts of music making and singing tactics. He also took them through personal development skills in showbizness, giving them his personal experiences. He gladly answered their questions, interacted freely and took pictures with the young talents.
Taylor was invited into the country purposely by MTN Nigeria for the launch of ‘One World’ a newly introduced product in the MTN brands’ stable. The American star who currently leads his own musical group after partying ways with the Cool & The Gang a decade ago, thrilled a select number of high networth guests invited for the MTN Gala in Abuja the federal capital territory on Wednesday November 12, 2008. This was to precede the official launch of the new product in Lagos on Friday November 14, at Oceanview Restaurant on Victoria Island. Taylor and his band did not disappoint the huge high values customers and staff of MTN that came for the launch.
