Following disappointing exits from the Carling Cup in midweek, Premier League pacesetters Chelsea and Liverpool would be out on the road to unleash the hurt on their respective opponents.
Leaders Chelsea visit West Brom on the back of a good league run that has seen the Blues win its three matches without conceding since losing at home to Liverpool, scoring 12 goals in the process.
And though Burnley might have made Wednesday night miserable for Chelsea, Blues faithfuls would have been happy to see Ivorian striker Didier Drogba score his first this season.
The fans of second placed Liverpool will also hope star striker Fernando Torres returns to scoring when the Reds travel to face Bolton Wanderers early on Saturday though Irish international Robbie Keane has proved a capable scorer of late.
While the top two negotiate their ways at the Hawthornes and Reebok, third placed Arsenal welcome fifth placed Aston Villa in this weekend's highlight match in the Premier League with the Gunners off a morale boosting 2-1 win over Manchester United; not to forget the teen version's roll over Wigan in the Carling Cup.
Gabriel Agbonlahor's Villa go into the match on the back of two straight defeats in the league and a winless record at Arsenal since 1993; though Martin O'Neill's side have drawn on the last two visits to the Emirates with last season's encounter ending with Nicklas Bendtner's last-kick-of-the-match equaliser for Arsenal.
At Old Trafford, Seyi Olofinjana and his Stoke City may just fancy their chances of picking something off Manchester United after that win over Arsenal and draw at Wigan along with making the Carling Cup last eight for the first time in 30 years.
The Red Devils however must get its season on a firm foot or the tag of being the best finishers to the league season may not be enough to retain the league title, especially with Chelsea six points clear... United though have a game in hand against Fulham.
In other matches this weekend, Fulham would be cursing its luck when Tottenham Hotspur visit Craven Cottage on Saturday with Spurs unbeaten in six including that dramatic draw at Arsenal and back-to-back defeats of Liverpool in the league and Cup.
Nwankwo Kanu's Portsmouth take on West Ham United while Newcastle United will hope Obafemi Martins and Shola Ameobi continue scoring upfront to repel visiting Wigan Athletic.
On Sunday, Everton welcome Middlesbrough looking to improve a dismal home record so far this season while Manchester City manager Mark Hughes could do with a breather but the visit to Hull City could prove otherwise as Arsenal and Manchester United can testify.
