Nokia N96 Nokia! Nokia! Nokia! Didn't you get all the criticisms from critics on the n81? Why did you go ahead to make the n96 a look alike of the n81? A whole lot of bad reviews on the n81 still linger, and yet the n96 comes on board to continue in the same trend. Released in September 2008, the n96 is a gadget to behold, of course not for it's physical appearance but for it's funtions.
To start with, unlimited entries and fields for your phone numbers, a 16GB internal memory as well as a card slot for transflash cards up to 8GB and an accelerometer sensor for auto rotation boosts the memory of the n96. Although the n96 has a massive internal memory, 128MB is the size of the random access memory and 256MB as storage memory, still impressive as you still have a whole lot of memory left on the phone. Definitely a 3G phone on HSDPA running at a speed of 3.6 megabytes per second. Internet connectivity made possible by Wi-fi makes you think you are handling an iphone or the omnia from samsung. Browsers embedded are the regular WAP2.0/xHTML,HTML as well a new addition; the RSS reader. Data processing on the n96 is at it's peak with it's position on class 32 GPRS/EDGE and this is a new one; class 11 on DTM and operates at a speed of 177kb per second. The camera on the n96 is well, not bad; a 5.0 mega pixel with carl zeiss optics specifications and autofocus as well as flash. Since it's a 3G phone, it has a secondary VGA video calling camera and a built in GPS receiver. I guess you know what this means NAVIGATION. In addition to all this, the n96 has a DVB-H TV broadcast receiver and a media player which can be enjoyed via the regular 3.5mm audio output jack. All this embedded in an 18mm thick and 125g weighed phone which comes in just one colour; black. Apart from the design, inherited from the unapplauded n81, the battery could simply be regarded as a shame to nokia. How can you make a phone with a battery of standby time 220hrs and talktime of 3hrs 40 mins? What was Nokia thinking? Also the camera lens seems just too exposed for my liking, would've been better if it had protection over it.
