Does this phone remind you of another Sony Ericsson phone I reviewed here? I guess so. The R300 looks a lot like the w890i released in 2007. The R300 however, released in july 2008, has hit the market and seems to be the toast of all freebie lovers as quite a good number has being given away as gifts as part of promotions on the phone here in Nigeria (who no like awoof?!).
Sony Ericsson R300 - pix: GSMArena.com The w890i, like I said in the reveiw, was a LAUDABLE IMPROVEMENT. I don't know if I can say the same for the R300. Lets see what it offers... The R300 has a width of 12mm and weighs 75g. and a 65k TFT colour display that leaves you captivated each time you set your eyes on it. One area I'm still a little confused on is the memory of the phone. Starting impressively, the phonebook has slots upto 100 entries and photo call capability. Also, call records are stored up to 30 entries for both received, missed, and dialled calls. Now here is the problem; the phone has no memory card slot, but a shared memory of 8MB. I am sure you about to ask me how sure I am on this? I had to double check this online and even physically on the phone itself before writing this. As for data processing, the R300 is not compatible with any of the following; HSCSD, EDGE, as well as the 3G network. It's only compatible with the GPRS network belonging to the class 10. Colours available are Antique copper and steel black. The R300 also has a VGA 640x480 pixels camera capable of video recording. The only feature, apart from design, that links the R300 with W890i is the track ID ability on the phones walkman/media player. The R300 The player plays just mp3/AAC files. How many mp3 files can you save on 8MB? I wonder why such a strong battery with standby time of 400hrs and talk time of 9hrs. Ok. It's got radio. You do need a lot of battery power for that. And there's bluetooth. That needs a lot of battery power too. Am I missing something here? Sincerely I do not know what sony ericsson is trying to pull with this one. If you do, please people, help me out.
