Samuel Peter's quest towards unifying the world titles of heavyweight boxing came to an abrupt end with defeat by withdrawal to Vitali Klitschko in the WBC title fight at the O2 Arena in Berlin.
Peter; the World Boxing Council title holder, unfortunately had no answer to Vitali's onslaught and by the fourth round, the Ukrainian champion emeritus had the Nigerian Nightmare bleeding.
The contest came to an end at the eighth round with Vitali, older of the Klitschko brothers, being awarded the win after Peter retired at the end of that round; and in the process regaining the title he left when he retired in 2005.
The defeat is only Peter's second in 32 bouts with the other coming from the gloves of Wladimir Klitschko in 2005; Wladimir currently holds the WBO, IBF, IBO title belts.
With Vitali's victory to reclaim the WBC title, the chance of a unification of the heavyweight titles remains a dream as both brothers have promised never to fight each other when champions at the same time.
