Barcelona continued its rich vein of form in the Primera Liga, winning its third match on the bounce in more than convincing manner with a 6-1 demolition of Atletico Madrid at the Nou Camp.

Mexican midfielder Rafael Marquez opened the floodgate of goals in the third minute before Samuel Eto'o from the penalty spot three minutes and Lionel Messi another three minutes later put the Blaugrana 3-0 up in the opening 10 minutes.

Eto'o, for his brace, and Eidur Gudjohnsen sealed the match before the half hour mark with further goals after Maxi Rodriguez's goal shown a glimmer of hope of a comeback for Atletico.

Thierry Henry then completed the rout with the Catalan side's sixth and leave the club in fourth place on 13 points, three points behind leaders Valencia and Villarreal who both got one goal victories over Bartholomew Ogbeche's Real Valladolid and Real Betis respectively.

Champions Real Madrid slipped to fifth spot behind Barcelona on goal difference after a Raul brace earned a 2-2 draw at home to Espenyol which was leading 2-0 after the half hour.

In other matches, Ikechukwu Uche scored the opening goal just after the hour mark for Getafe against Kalu Uche's Almeria in a match the visitors stole a dramatic point with a stoppage time equaliser; the game ended 2-2.

In Italy, Inter Milan joined leaders SS Lazio on top of the Serie A with 13 points after a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to newly promoted Bologna with goals in each half from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adriano from the penalty spot. Victor Obinna Nsofor made a substitute appearance for Inter and had a stoppage time goal ruled out for offside.

Ayo Makinwa's Lazio escaped from going down in defeat at home to another newly promoted side, Lecce, with Simone Inzaghi; younger brother of AC Milan's Filippo Inzaghi, scoring a last minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw at the Olimpico.

Inter though is third behind second placed Udinese which defeated Torino 2-0 while Palermo now occupies fourth spot after a well earned 2-1 win in Turin against Juventus; now 11th on the table with nine points.

In other results, AS Roma slumped from the highs of its Champions League win at Bordeaux with a 1-0 loss at Siena while AC Milan's winning run ended abruptly with a goalless draw at Cagliari.

Roma now occupies 14th place with seven points, three points off the relegation zone while Milan have 10 points in eighth place.
