Faze doing his thing.... Finally, what has been tagged the most anticipated musical album of this year in Naija was earlier this morning {about 12:30 a.m} launched at Planet One Entertainment Centre, Maryland, Lagos...Faze's 'Originality' that is.
The ceremony, which kicked off around 8:30 pm with a red carpet reception, saw an array of the industry's finest in country meet with the Press for quick interviews and pictures; not forgetting the paparazzi.
From the established names like Alariwo, Blakky, Zakky, Sunny Nneji, Koffi, Princess, 2 Shotz and Rasqie to the fast rising talents like Etcetera; out with three new videos soon, Skuki, Toba Gold and more...If you think the stars are too much, wait till I tell you those we met inside the hall.
After some opening stuffs from Popular comedian, Jedi and the not so popular but very comedic Maleke all the way from Naija's Benin, the stage started witnessing performances from the upcoming acts in the music industry.
We had people like AJ, Peace Joseph, Henry G and Nature take their turns on the podium before popular comedian cum musician Koffi took over with some rib-cracking jokes which he rounded up with his new song, 'Candy Man'.
Lest I forget, there also was this guy who played the beats of almost all songs reigning today with his mouth. You wouldn't believe it, I didn't too initially except that he was doing it right in front of my eyes; and a whole lot of other eyes at the show. He even did the beats of Michael Jackson's legendary 'Thriller' and our very own national anthem, all with his mouth...just shows how much talent we have within us in Naija. Of course, he was well applauded by the audience who were just as stunned as I was.
Peter and Paul on stage And the first big name took over the stage...guess who...P-Square. The crowd went into a frenzy and sang along with them all the songs they performed including 'Do Me', 'Ifunanya', 'No One Like You' and 'Temptation'. As usual, their performance was full of energy and err, the crowd had no choice but to feel them.
With the stakes raised we all were wondering who it was that would perform next. And who else could it have been but the Mo'hits Crew. It consisted only of the kokomaster himself, D'banj and Wande Coal and of course, Don Jazzy had to be there. Y'all can imagine how the crowd reacted...wild screams, hoots and all that. Even the press went into a frenzy all justling to take shots of the superstars.
The Mo'hits crew did some songs including 'Pere' from the Curriculum Vitae album, 'Igwe', 'Fall In Love' and 'Mogbono feli feli' from The Entertainer by D'banj before they bowed out of the stage to the delight of their teeming fans.
KC Presh performing. KC Presh took over from them to do their lastest hit, 'Sokori' and the one we all know better, 'Sengemenge'. As always, the duo were all blinged up with chains almost all over them.
Then came Faze's international manager, Joy Congo who tried to tell us how Faze got to where he is today. From his days of hustling with 2 Face and Black Face {Naija} as Plantashun Boiz through the days of his first solo album, 'Faze Alone' in 2004 and onto the release of his chartbusting second album which had the hit tracks like 'Kolomental' and 'Tatoo girl' in 2006. The guy seems to be making a habit of releasing albums every two years.
Unfortunately according to Congo, 2 Face and Black Face could not make it physically for the album launch though they both were in support of Faze and his new work.
Having done all the preliminaries, the man of the moment got on stage in a ghost-like manner appearing from behind the podium and what followed was a performance of seven of the tracks in the new album to the awe of the audience. Of course, he couldn't forget to do 'Originality', the earlier released single which did a great job of ground wetting for the album.
Other songs from the album performed at the event include 'Spend my Money' which is expected to hit the airwaves in a few days time, as well as a reggae version of the hit single 'Originality'.
The climax of the event was the unveiling of the album by the enviable quartet of Zakky, Blakky, Alariwo and Sunny Nneji who all had words of praise for the chief host of the event, who happened to be Chibuzor "Faze" Orji himself.
That ended the ceremony which also saw the presence of one of the popular actor's, Aki and Pawpaw, African China and some others.
Lest I forget, I bet this is only place you would have seen this news this early...that's the more reason you should stay tuned...ya got it? Quote this article on your site | Views: 864 | Print | E-mail
