With 626 days to the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the official mascot of the football mundial has been unveiled and it is a leopard with green hair.
Explaining what it is about Zakumi, the mascot, Danny Jordaan said the name is derived from South Africa which is abbreviated to "za"; websites ending with .za come to mind here, while "kumi" is a combination of about 10 African languages which translate to 10, representing the year of the World Cup which is 2010.
He went further to state that Zakumi was born in 1994; same year as the independence of South Africa, and the mascot is "young, energetic, smart and ambitious and is a real inspiration to both the young and the old.
