EFCC Press Release: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has recovered fake 2.1 million United States dollars (about N247.8million) from a fraudster who specializes in the printing of fake currencies.
The suspect, 30 year old Emmanuel Okoro, aka Davidson and an indigene of Imo state is being interrogated by operatives of the EFCC in Kano zone. His arrest last Tuesday , September 16, 2008 in Badawa village, Kano was a result of on-going collaboration between the Commission and the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps. When operatives raided Okoro’s hide out, some of the tools of his trade which include ‘mercury’ and ‘chemical’ were recovered from him. These he later confessed were mere candle wax and coca cola soft drink mixed with pears baby oil. According to him, he went into the evil trade on a vengeance mission having been duped two years ago of N1.8 million belonging to his spare part dealer master. He claimed he was defrauded then by the same gang he was working with at the time of his arrest . According to him, they make their victims believe they can print currencies of any country they wish in any quantity they can afford. That, itself, will be determined by how much their unsuspecting suspects can invest in the purchase of chemicals for printing the currency, samples of which they show their victims, ostensibly to make them desperate. Though efforts are on to get other members of the syndicate, arrangements are being made to arraign Okoro in court soon.
