EFCC Press Release:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has interrogated four local government chairmen in Rivers State on their activities as head of their respective local governments.

Those invited and quizzed include chairmen of Obiakpo, Port Harcourt city, Oyigbo and Ikwerre local government areas. The exercise was carried out by the Economic Governance Unit of the Port Harcourt zonal office of the Commission in furtherance of  EFCC’s new leadership belief that preventive measure is crucial to the fight against economic crimes and as part of on-going probe of the account books of all the local government areas in the country .  

Those quizzed were asked on their roles regarding their local government allocation, expenditure, and balance. They were also asked to render detailed account of all on-going, executed, and future projects. They were interrogated between September 16 and 18,2008.  

The exercise was preceded by a request from the commission to the federal ministry of works to obtain information regarding qualities of work on ground in the affected local governments in relation to the required quality on paper and cost budgeted for them.

Mrs. Farida Waziri, Chairman of the commission had at several fora, indicated her resolve to prevent financial misconduct among public office holders through proactive measures.

The exercise is expected to move from Rivers to Bayelsa, Delta and Abia states in the weeks ahead.
