Anti-graft war: Reps seek partnership with EFCC |

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs Farida Waziri, has again called on well meaning Nigerians to lend their support to the anti-graft agency in the fight against corruption in the interest of the nation.
She made the call weekend when she received some members of the National Assembly who paid her a visit to express support for her and also seek parnership with the Commission in the ardous task of fighting economic crime in Nigeria. The legislators who came under the aegis of Initiative Forum of the National Assembly were led by the Dean of the group, Honourable Eseme Eyiboh. Other members on the visit include, Nasiru Sule Garo, Deputy Dean; Princess Peace Nnaji, Director Mobilization; Dr. Pat Asadu, Director International organization; Taiwo Oluyemi Adewale, Advisor; Mikail Al-Amin Bmitosahi, Treasurer and Kamil Mudashiru, secretary. The honourable members who commended Mrs Waziri for the proactive steps she has taken so far as the Commission’s boss, said they were ready to collaborate with the EFCC in the fight against corruption. Hon. Eyiboh who noted that the image of the National Assembly has improved told his host that because of their zeal to see a better Nigeria, they usually hold round table conference where issues of national importance are discussed, all with a view to moving the nation forward. He said the essence of Initiative Forum was to set agenda, promote good governance, accountability and purpose governance. He however, lamented that some politicians in Nigeria go into politics with the aim of ‘doing something or being something.’ In her response, Mrs Waziri thanked them for their gesture, saying that she has always insisted that it was erroneous to say that all Nigerians are corrupt. She said she was delighted that there are still some Nigerians who have decided to do things differently and push for a corrupt free society. She assured the members that the fight against corruption was on course and that she would from time to time be counting on their support. She reiterated her desire to nip corruption in the bud by engaging in effective sensitization of the Nigerian populace on the evil of the social malaise. She lamented that corruption has permeated every sphere of our national life to an extent that it has reduced a supposedly rich nation to a poor nation with a telling effect on the life expectancy of the citizenry. He said because of corruption, the average citizen is denied of basic necessitates of life, such as education, road, good health care and a host of others, thereby causing innumerable hardship and early death.
