The 2008-09 Globacom Premier League began over the weekend with no away wins and an excellent result for newly promoted Kaduna United which defeated league defending champions Kano Pillars 2-1 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

The performance of the weekend however came in Yenagoa where next season's CAF Confederations Cup representative, Bayelsa United romped to a 4-0 win over Niger Tornadoes.

The result left the Niger Delta club in top spot after the opening weekend fixtures ahead of Gombe United and Zamfara United that both claimed 2-0 wins over Sharks of Port-Harcourt and Nasarawa United respectively.

Rangers International at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu edged out newly promoted JUTH of Jos 1-0 while Lobi Stars defeated Akwa United 2-1 at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.

Other results saw Sunshine Stars hold visiting Wikki Tourists to a goalless draw in Akure with the Tourists having a goal disallowed late on. Heartland was also held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted FC Abuja; Macaulay Chrisantus' former club, while Gateway of Abeokuta held visiting Warri Wolves to another 1-1 draw.

The outstanding match between Enyimba and Ocean Boys is scheduled to hold on Wednesday September 17 at the Aba Township Stadium, though the Aba Elephants will play a rescheduled CAF Champions League on Monday.
