It was a thrilling Premier League encounter at the Britannia Stadium with Everton surviving a late comeback from Stoke City to claim a 3-2 win; the Toffees' second away success this season.
Everton had taken a 2-0 lead through Nigerian strikers Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Victor Anichebe either side of half time but Seyi Olofinjana pulled one back with a volley three minutes after Anichebe's goal in the 54th minute.
Phil Jagielka then scored an own goal in the 63rd minute when his attempted clearance from a Rory Delap throw-in went past goalkeeper Tim Howard for the Stoke equaliser.
Before then Stoke could have equalised through Ricardo Fuller but his goal was disallowed on a dramatic afternoon as referee Alan Wiley rather felt Fuller had fouled Joseph Yobo in getting possession before rounding Howard to score.
Tim Cahill however ensured all three points went to the visitors with a header in the 77th minute, three minutes after Everton had been denied a penalty by Wiley who after consultations with his assistant awarded a free kick just outside the area.
