Liverpool climbed to the top of the Premier League for the time being with 10 points following a milestone 2-1 win over archrivals Manchester United in the early kickoff of Saturday.
Carlos Tevez had put the Red Devils into an early lead off a pull back pass from new signing Dimitar Berbatov before a freak own goal put Liverpool back in the game. Xabi Alonso's shot had deflected into the United area off Patrice Evra and goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar could only palm the ball onto Wes Brown and watch it roll into the net in the 26th minute.
Ryan Babel completed the comeback in the 77th minute after Javier Mascherano won the ball off Ryan Giggs and found Dirk Kuyt who's cross was met by Babel to fire home and win allow Liverpool win its first match at home against Man U in seven seasons.
The biggest win of the weekend so far came at Ewood Park when Blackburn Rovers were crushed by a trademark smooth passing Arsenal display with goals from Robin van Persie and a hattrick from Emmanuel Adebayor.
The win moved Arsenal up to second place in the time being with nine points ahead of Saturday evening's kick-off between Manchester City and Chelsea at the City Stadium with Robinho expected to make his debut for City.
Other results on Saturday afternoon saw Newcastle United, without the injured Obafemi Martins, fall to a 2-1 defeat at home to newly promoted Hull City with Marlon King scoring both Hull goals while new signing Xisco scored a consolation for the Magpies.
West Brom won a dramatic encounter 3-2 at home to West Ham while Portsmouth came from a Mido goal down to defeat Middlesbrough 2-1 at home courtesy of a brace from the in-form Jermaine Defoe.
