| Nigerian Powerlifters Claim Two More Paralympic Medals |

     Patience Igbiti in the -60kg category claimed a bronze medal with a lift of 110.0kg, her first lift, while she failed to lift 115kg in her second and third attempt, leaving her behind winner China's Jianxin Bian and Amal Osman from Egypt. Victoria Amoge however went one better with a silver medal in the -67.5kg with a lift of 132.5kg, her second lift, while she failed in her third attempt to lift 142.5kg. Over in Table-Tennis, Nigeria's exploits was however a losing one as the country lost to China and the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the Men's Team Class event at the Games. Against China in the Class 4-5 category, Nasiru Sule came from two rubbers down to level the game at 2-2 before succumbing 13-11 in the final rubber and lose the opening game 3-2. The second match between Oluade Egbinola and Yan Zhang ended in a 3-0 defeat to leave the Chinese one match away from the semi-final. In the doubles however, Sule and Egbinola recovered from relinquishing a two rubber lead to win the third game 3-2. The fourth game however saw Zhang wrap up the match and a semi-final place for the host nation with a 3-1 win over Nasiru, ending Nigeria's participation in the Class 4-5 event. Against the Netherlands in the Class 9-10 category, the same scenario played itself out with the Dutchmen winning the opening two games against Tajudeen Agunbiade and Biyi Olufemi while the Nigerians teamed up to defeat the Dutch in the doubles before bowing out with the defeat of Olufemi in the fourth game by Gerben Last. On the medals table, Nigeria now lies in 26th position with three gold, two silver and one bronze medals right behind Egypt in 25th place with same number of gold and silver medals but two more bronze medals. South Africa continues to lead the African contingent in China with a haul of 15 gold, two silver and five bronze medals in seventh place while Tunisia follows in 15th place overall with five gold, six silvers and two bronze medals. Kenya and Algeria follow in 19th and 20th overall with four gold medals apiece while the Kenyans have two silver and one bronze medal against Algeria's one silver and five bronze medals. Other African nations on the medals table are Morocco with two gold, one silver and one bronze medal, Angola with two silver medals and Namibia with one bronze medal. China continues to lead the medals table with a haul of 49 gold, 48 silver and 33 bronze medals while Great Britain maintains second place with 38 gold, 21 silver and 23 bronze medals.
