Just about a fortnight ago, we reported that the third edition of Big Brother Africa was about to set sail. The anticipation level then was in the highs. Unfortunately though, it has been a rather sluggish start to the show.
This seems to affirm fears from different quotas that the show might lose some of its glamour due to modifications forced on the organisers in order to obtain broadcast rights in Nigeria...something to do with some obscene transmissions in previous editions. The show, expected to run for 90 days kicked off on the 24th of August with twelve contestants including Malawian Hazal, Angolan Ricco, Kenyan Sheila, Tanzanian Latoya, Namibain Lucille, Ghanaian Mimi, Zambian Tankodwa, Ugandan Morris, Botswana's Tawana, Zimbabwean Munya, Thami and our own Uti. Contrary to the high expectations of the audience, the show has, since it began, not been too encouraging...maybe because the housemates are just getting to know each other. The contestants have, apart from familirizing, been engaged in various activities at the prompting of the almighty Big Brother including 'parties'. However, the show might soon explode with the eviction of a contestant in the loop. A 'mock' nomination was held last weekend by the housemates in which Tawana, Sheila and Latoya have been nominated. Unlike most other shows, these three housemates would be praying the audience doesn't vote for them at all as the mate with the least vote would remain in the house. Meaning, if you have your favourites amongst them, don't vote for him/her instead vote for the others. It is imperative for the organisers and the housemates to up their game in order to sustain its viewership for the next 80 days or so...we're watching.
