2008 Paralympic Games hosts, China opened a sizeable lead on top of the medal table for the Games, hauling a total of 34 gold, 40 silver and 27 bronze medals so far in the Games.

China and Great Britain had previously exchanged top spot on the medals table in the opening days of the Games but the Britons now occupy second spot with 29 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze medals.

However, the United States comes in a not-too-distant third with 20 gold, 12 silver and 15 bronze medals while Australia and Ukraine complete the top five with the Aussies on 13 gold medals, one more than the Ukrainians.

South Africa leads the African contingent in China with eight gold medals in ninth place overall, ahead of Tunisia in 14th with five gold medals and Nigeria in joint 21st with three gold medals along with Algeria a place behind in 23rd.

Kenya comes next in 28th place with two gold, two silver and one bronze medal while Egypt shares 29th with Denmark with both countries having two gold, one silver and three bronze medals so far.

Other African nations on the medals table are Angola and Morocco with one silver medal apiece, and Namibia with one bronze medal along with seven other countries.
