Hey...are you crazy...but the show started last week, I hear you say. Yeah, you're right, I also wrote a story on its commencement last week. What I mean now is that this year's edition of the show has just fully kicked off with the eviction of one of the ten families competing for honours.
Although the show started last Sunday, August 31st, it only just got to real business in last night's episode. It had started on the first episode to take its viewers down memory lane to the first edition of the show which held about the same period last year. Then they took us through the regional selection 'brohaha'. Mehn, you ought to have seen people dancing. From five year olds who churned out perfomances that some of their parents can only match in their dreams to elderly persons in the 40s and 50s also competing in the bid to get a taste of the action.
Having put that aside, this year's edition began in last wednesday's episode in which the ten finalists were announced from the shortlisted fifteen from the regionals...it began from there.
The task immediately began for the contesting families who had to master the steps of the wazobia dance, the contemporary dance forms of various ethnic nationalities across Nigeria. They went through losts of rehearsal sessions with one Esther Usman, a 'wazobia' dance instructor and Bimbo Obafunwo, an award winning dancer.
Friday night's edition of the show saw the viewers being treated to various versions of the wazobia...I mean, as the ten different families thought appropriate. It was pleasing to watch and am sure those who saw it won't regret owning their television sets.
However, since it is a competition and a family had to be evicted. The three families who, in the judges' views, performed the least were shortlisted for eviction...they were the Odiah, Ennoh and Okoro families. Mind you, in this show, once the lead dancer in a family is shortlisted for eviction, the rest of the family tries to rescue him/her by also competing in a dance contest with rest of the families of the other shortlisted candidates.
Last night's episode saw the three short-listed families put up their best in order to save their place in the contest...that was after they took lessons in Wazobia dance like primary school pupils from their lead dancers.
To save the long story, the Okoro finally was the first to be shown the exit door out of the contest after performing less than the other two shortlisted families who were later re-admitted into the contest to join the OKEMIRI, OKPANACHI, OPUWARI, OLANIRAN, FRANCIS, BEM and EBHOHON families in the race for glory.
Well, the show continues...hope to keep y'all posted. Quote this article on your site | Views: 479 | Print | E-mail
