2008 Paralympics: Olufemi Claims Second Win in T-Tennis

Nigeria's Paralympic ping-pongers earlier today made a slightly improved showing at the Table Tennis event of the ongoing Paralympics with two wins and losses apiece in the men's category.

Sule Nasiru began the day on a losing note in the Class 4-5, falling 3-0 to China's Gang Bai in all of 13 minutes though Tajudeen Agunbiade and Biyi Olufemi won their respective matches afterwards.

Agunbiade, playing in Class 9-10, defeated Hungary's Dezso Berecki 3-1 while Olufemi in the same Class defeated Ukrainian Yuriy Shchepanskyy 3-0 in 15 minutes for his second victory in the round robin stage.

Oluade Egbinola, playing in Class 3, however succumbed to a 3-1 loss to Israeli Liran Geva after taking the opening set 12 games to 10.

Later today, Chineye Obiora will play her third Class 4 match against Claire Robertson of Great Britain. Obiora lost her opening to matches on Sunday.

On the medals table, the Chinese are now on top with eight gold, nine silver and 10 bronze medals ahead of the United States with eight gold as well but four silver and five bronze medals.

Great Britain now lies third with seven gold, four silver and three bronze medals with Australia fourth with five gold medals.

Algeria meanwhile continues to lead the African contingent with a total of three gold and one bronze medal while South Africa follows close with two gold and one bronze medal.

Tunisia is the only other African nation on the medals table with one silver won so far. A total of 37 countries have so far registered on the medals table at Beijing.
