Mobil Oil Nigeria plc announces change in Leadership

Lagos, Nigeria, Monday, 8 September, 2008: The Board of Mobil Oil Nigeria (MON), an ExxonMobil affiliate company, has announced the voluntary retirement of its Chairman/Managing Director, Mr. Olu Onakoya.

Mr. Onakoya, a chemical engineer, is the firm’s first Nigerian Chairman/Managing Director. He will retire on 21 October, 2008 after a meritorious career spanning 31 years in Exxon Mobil and will be succeeded by another Nigerian, Mr. Adetunji A. Oyebanji, who is currently the Company’s Executive Director, Retail Sales.

Mr. Onakoya was at various times General Manager, Mobil Oil Ethiopia, Chairman/Managing Director of Mobil Oil Ghana and Mobil Oil Zimbabwe before his appointment in April 2004 to lead the downstream subsidiary of Exxon Mobil in Nigeria. During his tenure, MON witnessed tremendous change in its business and organisation through the introduction of global processes and technology applications. The successful implementation of On The Run food court, SAP software and relocation of its headquarters to a world-class facility in Apapa have helped to position MON for a future of sustainable prosperity as a leading player in Nigeria's downstream sector.

Mr. Oyebanji holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the University of Lagos, and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from City University, London. Since joining Mobil in 1980 he has had a varied career in Sales, Marketing and Planning in Exxon Mobil affiliates in Africa, Europe and U.S.A.

The seamless change of baton from a Nigerian to another is the first of its kind in the 100-year history of the firm’s operations in Nigeria and demonstrates Exxon Mobil's confidence in the ability of Nigerians to run business to global standards of ethics and quality while also delivering consistent returns to shareholders.
