Nigeria's campaign at the Table Tennis event of the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing began on a bad note with all but one player losing their opening round robin matches on Sunday.

Biyi Olufemi claimed a 3-0 win over Xiaolei Lu of China in just over half an hour in the Men's Individual Class 9-10 while Tajudeen Agunbiade lost three games to one to Ivan Karabec of the Czech Republic in the same class.

In the Men's Individual Class 3, Oluade Egbinola won the first game against Egon Kramminger before succumbing in the next three ganes to the Austrian and lose the match 3-1. In Class 4-5, Nasiru Sule fell 3-0 to Frenchman Christophe Durand.

In the women's category, Chineye Obiora lost 3-0 Hye-Sung Moon of South Korea in her opening Class 4 round robin before falling 3-1 to Valeria Zorzetto of Italy later on Sunday.

The players will continue their round robin fixtures on Monday while the eight Powerlifters representing Nigeria will commence their campaign on Tuesday.

Meanwhile on the medals table, The United States and Great Britain have four gold medals apiece ahead of host China and Australia with three gold medals and Russia with two gold medals.

Algeria so far is the highest ranked African nation on the medals table with two gold medals and is followed by South Africa with one gold. So far, 24 nations have won at least a medal.
