P SquareQuite a couple of weeks ago, one of Africa's foremost satellite music channels, Channel O released its nominations for this year's edition of its annual music video awards…guess what, Nigerian artistes are no pushovers…the nominations confirmed that.

In all, the Nigerian music ambassadors booked a total of thirteen slots in nine of the total thirteen categories. This feat is beaten only by the South Africans who had more than fifteen slots. Let's quickly run through the list to check out the guys that got the slots for Nigeria

In the best male category, Ikechukwu is repping Nigeria with his widely accepted 'Wind Em Well' which is also contesting for the Video of the year award. But…in the first category, He's got strong contest from South-Africans, Prokid and HHP whose 'Bampa' and 'Music N Lights' are also competing in the best Hip Hop Video and Video of the year categories in that order.

Nigeria's flag is also hoisted in the Best Female Video Category with Sasha's comeback hit, 'Adara' contesting with South African Lizha James' 'Nita Mukuna Nwini' whatever that means, Ghanain Becca's 'Sugar' and Angola's Lady May whose 'Chokola' track is also competing in the Best Dance Video Category.

Igho's '9ja Boyz' is one oft the five newcomers who would be hoping to win the best newcomer awrard. The rest are South Africans Camagwini and Kast with 'Imvumi' and 'Ndono' respectively, Zimbabwe's Buffalo SOulja and Simba's' 'Lovely Day'.

Also in the best duo or group category, P Square's 'Do Me' would be battling for honours with South Africa's Jozi, Liberia's Irene & Jane, Tanzania's Witness and Bleksem.

In the best raga dancehall video category, Baba Dee's 'Blaze' would need to see off challenge
from Buffalo Soulja, Aeus, Mapaputsi and Ofori Amponsah.

Tu Face maintains his African prominence by booking a slot in the Best R&B video category with 'True Love'. He just has to overcome south Africans, Danny K and Loyiso with 'Outdacontrol' and 'I want you' plus Namibian Gal Level's 'Falling in Love'.

It's kinda nigerian affair in the Best African West category with Ikechukwu, Faze and D'Banj coccupying three of the five places on offer. Ikechukwu for 'Wind Em Well' Faze for 'Loving U everyday" while D'Banj is on for 'Move Your Body'. The other two competitors in this category are Ghanain Becca for 'Sugar' and M Trill for 'Bounce'.

Naeto C

Also, Nigeria got two slots in the Best Hip Hop Video Category, thanks to KC PResh and Naeto C's effort in putting together  'Sengemenge' and 'U know My P' respectivey. Prokid, Witness from Tanzania and Slikour are also in this contest.

Finally P-Square and Ikechukwu stand the chance of being named Video of the year for 'Do Me' and 'Wind Em Well' after booking their slots in the category which ahs three other south-africans in it. Freshly Ground's 'Pot Belly', Ziqo's 'Vanis Embora' and HHP's 'Music N Lights' are all repping South Africa.

The good news however is that the choice of winners is an exclusive burden of millions of African music fans across and beyond the African continent. Welll, this might mean that the Nigerians nominated should win their categories. You understand now…it ain't easy to come from a country with about 150 million people.

With this year's theme as "One Africa; Uniting Africa Through Music', The Channel O Music Video Awards is billed to take place in Johannesburg on the 9th of October.
