After a heated week at St James' Park over the future of Kevin Keegan as manager of Obafemi Martins and Newcastle United in which the club and the League Managers' Association denied reports of his sack, Keegan himself has on Thursday evening resigned as manager.
This time as well, the LMA have confirmed Keegan's resignation from the Magpies which according to the former England boss was due to the club's transfer activities that saw him have little control over.
The strain at Newcastle began weeks into Keegan's third stint as manager when owner Mike Ashley appointed former Milwall manager Denis Wise as Director of Football, or as Ashley put it, as a "football related" Executive Director. Ashley also brought in Tony Jimenez as Vice-President of player recruitment.
The duo were responsible for the exit of a few players in the summer including, to the pain of Keegan, James Milner to Aston Villa. They then replaced these players with the likes of Jonas Guttierez and Fabricio Collochini.
Keegan's first spell at the club, as a player, saw him lead the Magpies into the top flight in the early '80s before leading them back into the Premier League and coming close to the title in 1995.
He came for a third spell earlier this year in January after the sack of Sam Allardyce to the admiration of the fans who idolise "King Kev".
