Super Eagles of Nigeria maintained its 27th position from last month in the latest world rankings released for the month of September by world football governing body FIFA.

Nigeria will on Saturday be involved in a World and African Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa in Port Elizabeth with South Africa needing a win to maintain its slim chance of making the Nations Cup.

Ranked 70th on the world rankings, the South Africans are already through to the World Cup in 2010 as host but an absence from the Nations Cup earlier in 2010 in Angola would deny Bafana Bafana top rate preparation for the first World Cup in Africa.

Meanwhile, Cameroun remained the highest ranked African country on the world rankings at 14th and is followed by Ghana, Egypt and Cote D'Ivoire in 20th, 21st and 23rd respectively; the Balck Stars going down one place, the Pharoahs static and the Elephants up two places.

Spain also maintained its place on top of the world for the third month running while Italy swapped places with Germany who now lie in third place while the Netherlands and Croatia make up the top five.

Brazil remains at an all time low of sixth place after being number one for years though small consolation comes in archrivals Argentina occupying a place below them in 7th.
