The 17th career encounter between Williams sisters Serena and Venus ended in a straight sets win for Serena who will now face the in-form Dinara Safina in the US Open semi-final.
The game of the Williams sisters however was not a breeze for Serena as only three winners separated her from Venus on her way to a 7-6, 7-6 victory in two and half hours.
The other semi-final in the women's draw will see second seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia take on gold medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Elena Dementieva of Russia.
In the men's draw, world number one Rafael Nadal came from a set down to defeat American 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to reach his first semi-final at Flushing Meadows and set up a mouth watering clash with a fired up Andy Murray.
Murray came through his quarterfinal match against Juan Martin Del Potro in four sets of 7-6, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 to end the 24 match winning streak of Del Potro and reach his first ever semi-final in a Grand Slam.
The semi-final clash is a repeat of the quarterfinal meeting of both men at Wimbledon in which Nadal crushed Murray in straight sets on his way to winning the grass court Slam.
