Sunday's matches in the Premier League saw leaders Chelsea and second placed Liverpool have their 100% record ended with respective draws against Totteham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
Chelsea however remain on top with seven points despite a 1-1 draw against Spurs as Juliano Belletti's opener was cancelled out by Darren Bent as the North Londoners picked their first point of the season.
Meanwhile at Villa Park, Liverpool failed to take advantage of a lively draw at Stamford Bridge when the Reds were held to a drab goalless draw by Aston Villa.
However, Manchester City made amends for a low scoring day with a 3-0 win away at Sunderland courtesy of goals from Steve Ireland and Shawn Wright-Phillips on his second debut for City.
The win lifts City into third spot ahead of fourth placed Arsenal in fourth place, both on six points along with West Ham United and Middlesbrough in fifth and sixth spot respectively.
