Arsenal continued its scoring form from midweek with a convincing 3-0 win in the Premier League over Newcastle United, moving to second spot in the league pending Sunday's matches involving Chelsea and Liverpool.
Captain William Gallas should have opened scoring instead of blazing over from three yards out but Dutch striker Robin van Persie made up for that from the penalty spot on the 20th minute.
The injury prone striker made it 2-0 minutes before half time on the end of a neat passing move by the Gunners orchestrated by Emmanuel Eboue before Denilson; off another classic move, made it 3-0 in the second half with his first ever Premier League goal.
Newcastle though had its chances to score with Michael Owen's looping header tipped over by Manuel Almunia before Nicky Butt's header came off the crossbar and Almunia stooped to make to other saves from the Magpies.
Arsenal now occupy second spot with six points ahead of Chelsea hosting Tottenham and Liverpool on a tricky trip to Aston Villa on Sunday.
