Old Lady of Italian football Juventus continued its return to Europe's elite competition with a 5-1 aggregate success over Artmedia Petrzalka following a 1-1 draw in the second leg played on Tuesday night.
Barcelona joined the Italians despite a 1-0 loss at Wisla Krakow courtesy of a 4-0 win from the first leg to leave aggregate scores at 4-1 for the Spaniards.
In the other third round match decided yesterday, Panathinaikos defeated Sparta Prague 1-0 thanks to a Souza goal deep in stoppage time to go through 3-1 on aggregate.
In tonight's matches, a much depleted Arsenal will look to bounce back from defeat at Fulham in the league when Steve McLaren's FC Twente come visiting with a 2-0 deficit from the first leg.
Arsenal may welcome back talisman Cesc Fabregas but new signing Mikael Silvestre is not scheduled for a debut until mid-September against Blackburn while Philippe Senderos has joined AC Milan on a year long loan.
Other matches will see Liverpool host Standard Leige of Belgium on level terms after a goalless first leg while Schalke take a slender 1-0 lead to Atletico Madrid who have Sergio Aguero back from the Olympics.
Taye Taiwo's Olympique Marseille will host SK Brann with a 1-0 lead from the first leg while Julius Aghahowa's former club Shakhtar Donetsk take a 2-0 lead away to Dynamo Zagreb and Dynamo Kiev host Spartak Moscow holding a 4-1 lead from the first leg.
