Ukraine Striker Andrei Shevchenko will return to old club AC Milan after completing a medical and both Chelsea and Milan agreed terms which club officials state will remain confidential.
Shevchenko was Milan's second top scorer of all-time before joining Chelsea in 2006 for £30m in what was a fruitless sojourn that saw Sheva get more time on the bench.
Milan meanwhile are in need of strikers and Sheva's inclusion would be very welcome alongside Ronaldinho following the long term injury to Ronaldo de Lima late last season and Filippo Inzaghi getting on the wrong side of age for a footballer.
Alexander Pato's inconsistent performance at the Olympics for Brazil and Alberto Gilardino's sale to Serie A rivals Fiorentina also brought the need for a striker's inclusion.
