Cottagers Fulham inflicted an early set-back on the Premier League ambitions of Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal with a 1-0 win over the Gunners to leave Liverpool on top of the Premier League at least till Sunday evening.
Arsenal was without talisman Francesc Fabregas but that forms no excuse for the farce of a display from the North Londoners against its London neighbours that had lost 14 of the 16 previous encounters between both sides.
The goal came deservedly for Fulham in the 21st minute through Brede Hangeland who lost his marker William Gallas to stab home a corner kick from Jimmy Bullard, his first ever goal for the Cottagers.
Despite having the bulk of the possession, as usual, Arsenal failed to capitalise and only came close to scoring through Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor whose header came off the post two minutes after conceding.
Arsenal next play Newcastle United next weekend while Fulham's trip to Old Trafford to play Manchester United is off.
